From Big Boss to Broke-down Boss: The S$155K Lawsuit of the HK Principal Who Forgot His Manners at SAFRA Jurong

Wah lau eh, talk about high-stakes drama and international embarrassment!

Remember that viral video from May where a Hong Kong school principal decided to turn a local Singapore carpark into his own personal Hokkien-and-Cantonese-swearing MMA arena?

Well, the saga is back, and it’s spicier than extra-hot mala.

Meet Lee Cheuk-hing, the former head honcho of San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School in Tuen Mun. Back when he was steering the ship, he was pulling in a handsome salary of around HK$22,001 a month (roughly S$3,800-plus, but his total package and compensation demands are way higher now).

He decided to bring his student entourage down to sunny Singapore for a cultural exchange trip. Little did he know, his “cultural exchange” would involve exchanging heavy-duty vulgarities with local security guards.

Flashback: The SAFRA Jurong Showdown

Picture the scene: May 22, outside SAFRA Jurong. A tour bus driver and some security personnel are trying to sort out drop-off logistics. Enter Principal Lee, who apparently felt his inner fierce-dragon awakening.

Caught in 4K by viral camera angles, Lee was filmed pointing fingers, screaming “shut up”, “go away”, and dropping choice Cantonese profanities at two female security guards.

The internet was swift, brutal, and utterly kaypoh. Viewers online quickly pointed out a rather awkward contrast: while he was shouting down the security guards (who were ethnic minorities), the moment an ethnically Chinese local woman stepped in to politely advise him in Mandarin that parking there was dangerous, Lee immediately switched to his best customer-service voice: “OK, I listen to you. You are very polite. I like you.” Oof. Talk about selective EQ.

If that wasn’t enough cringe for one trip, another archive clip surfaced showing Lee playing a questionable game with female students on a coach bus—dropping a HK$1,000 note on the floor and chuckling, “You see, women are this greedy” when a student reached for it. Masterclass in role modeling, truly.

The “Act Blur” Resignation That Backfired

Realizing he had internationalized his shame, Lee tried the classic damage control playbook:
1. Drop a tearful apology video bowing to the camera, begging his students not to follow his garbage example.
2. Submit a resignation letter on May 28 asking to step down gracefully by August 31 so he could have a smooth exit.

The school board in Hong Kong read his resignation letter, looked at the viral internet memes, and said: “Diam lah, don’t play play with us.”

The Incorporated Management Committee convened an emergency meeting and straight-up rejected his resignation. Instead, they slapped him with an immediate dismissal under Section 9 of the Employment Ordinance, booting him out without a single cent of severance pay.

The board reasoned that keeping him around until August would completely wreck the school’s operations and give everyone high blood pressure.

Enter the S$155K Legal Showdown

You’d think after kenna-ing fired in disgrace and investigated by Singapore police for harassment, a man would quietly disappear into the woodwork. But no!

Like a true boss refusing to take the L, Lee has officially dragged his former school to court. He’s claiming he was wrongfully dismissed and is demanding roughly S$155,000 (HK$960,000) in compensation and unpaid dues.

His defense? He claims he was just trying to protect his students from danger, that the security guards shouted first, and that he was “shocked” the school didn’t appreciate his 60% surge in student enrollment numbers during his tenure.

Wah, shout until song-song finish, trauma-dump on the security team, damage the school’s reputation internationally, and now want the board to pay for his emotional damage? Steady pom pi pi.

The trial is locked in, and popcorn is officially being microwaved across Asia. Stay tuned to see if this principal gets a passing grade in court, or if he’ll learn that karma doesn’t take term breaks!
