Background:
Sunday morning (Sep 13), got this big-shot TriFactor Duathlon down at East Coast Park—run, bike, run, all that torture-yourself-for-fun sports stuff. People wake up at 5:00 AM when ghosts are still sleeping just to go sweat and chase some finisher medal, right?
The Great East Coast Park Tarmac Kiss
So picture the scene: it’s about 9:30 AM during the cycling leg. Our victim—a poor woman just minding her own business, pedaling along—gets suddenly and violently torpedoed by another participant.
And how does this genius decide to overtake her? From the left side, like some blur sotong who forgot which country he’s driving or riding in.
Bam!
Just like that, she’s flying off her bicycle and her face is doing a high-speed intimate greeting with the East Coast Park concrete. End result? A split lip, bruised-up face, broken sunglasses, a wrecked bicycle, and enough trauma to last three lifetimes. There is blood on the ground, she’s in agony, and she didn’t even get to finish the race.
Tour de Far-Away-From-The-Cops
Now, if a normal human being accidentally slams into someone with a bicycle, what do you do? You jam the brakes, you kena shock, you run over and say, “Wah piang, sister, you okay or not? Sorry sorry!”
Not this guy. Oh no. Mr. Main Character put on his invisible yellow jersey, shifted into 21st gear, and pedaled away into the horizon like he just kena chase by a pack of loan sharks. Sial behavior at its finest. Hit-and-run, Singapore edition: Tour de Coward.
An ambulance had to be called, hauling her off to Changi General Hospital all alone and leaving her personal barang-barang behind at the site. When her family back in Kuala Lumpur saw her Instagram post—complete with a bloody, bandaged face—their hearts dropped straight into their shoes.
Instantly, the family group chat exploded: “Don’t play already, what Singapore sports-sports? Pack your bag, come back KL right now, mummy cook chicken soup for you.”
Sister Goes Full FBI Agent & TriFactor’s 5-Business-Day Wake-Up Call
Of course, the victim’s sister got kancheong and took straight to Instagram to hunt down witnesses who might have caught this ghost rider’s face or bib number.
Police report? Lodged already. Good luck to that cyclist; now whole Singapore is playing “Spot the Blur Sotong.”
Then got the event organisers, TriFactor Asia. Ah, this one is classic corporate wayang.
At first? Complete radio silence. Sister calling them like an abandoned hotline, phone ringing into the abyss. “We are looking into it” ghosting mode activated.
The moment the sister’s IG post caught fire and the public started side-eyeing them?
Wah, magic! Suddenly the management woke up from a five-business-day coma, fast-hand-fast-leg calling the family, issuing statements like: “Our on-ground safety and medical teams responded immediately! All standard operational controls were fully executed with zero operational lapses!”
Wah, reading this part almost made me choke on my condensed milk.
Zero operational lapses? Then how come the guy can play Grand Theft Auto on two wheels and kana fly away like Batman without anyone catching his number plate? When tio accident then everyone rush to look efficient.
Final Kopi-Peng Verdict
Listen lah. If you sign up for a race, you sign up to test your stamina, not to audition for a demolition derby. East Coast Park is a public park and a race venue, not a Kallang Paya Lebar Expressway.
If your braking skills and road etiquette are on par with a spoilt bumper car at East Coast Lagoon, please—just stay at home and watch Tour de France on YouTube. Don’t go out there turning weekend fitness into a criminal investigation.
