From Kopitiam Banter to “Bankai”: The 10-Beer Uncle Who Brought Swords to a Carpark Fight

Wah lau eh, this story really proves that 10 cans of beer and an inflated ego can turn any uncle into a budget anime villain!

It all started one night at a kopitiam when a 47-year-old uncle got super buay tahan after his work kakis joked that he was just freeloading free food and drinks. Deeply offended, uncle stormed home. But when his friends called him to meet downstairs, he emerged from the void deck holding two full-sized swords.

In a cinematic flex, he slammed the blades onto the carpark floor and challenged his friends to a duel, yelling, “Pick them up lah, I fight both of you barehanded!”

Naturally, the friends stayed safely locked inside their vans like, “No thanks bro, we don’t do cosplay.” Furious that nobody wanted to join his Ghost of Tsushima reenactment, uncle picked up the swords, whacked their vans with the handles, and chased them down the road on foot before strolling back home.

When the police later raided his flat, they found a whole HDB armory containing five swords PLUS a katana!

As if that wasn’t crazy enough, just two days later, uncle went to another coffee shop at 7:30 AM and randomly started hurling red plastic chairs at aunties and uncles—hitting people in the mouth, chair-smashing a coffee shop assistant, and punching anyone who tried to stop him.

After a grand total of chair-throwing, sword-wielding chaos, the court sentenced him to 8 months and 3 weeks in jail.

Moral of the story: if your friends call you a freeloader, just buy the next round of drinks. Don’t go home and summon the Bankai!

Similar “Budget Villain” Incidents in Singapore

This uncle isn’t the only one who let booze, tempers, or bizarre impulses get the better of him. Singapore’s court section has seen a few equally wild cases over the years:

  • The Clementi Sword-Wielding Rampage: In 2022, a man brandished a sword along Clementi Avenue 3, slashing passing vehicles and lunging at pedestrians while intoxicated. His main fight ended quickly when he tried to charge at police officers and was swiftly neutralized with a single shot to his thigh.
  • The “Ninja” of Tampines: A man wearing a full dark ninja outfit walked around Tampines carrying a sword, claiming he was on a secret mission. Out-of-character stealth failed him completely—members of the public spotted him instantly, leading to a quick arrest and seizure of his weapons collection.
  • The Whampoa Coffee Shop Chair-Throwing Brawl: A drunken argument at a Whampoa hawker center turned into a full-scale physical melee when a group of men began using iconic red plastic kopitiam chairs as throwable projectiles. The chaotic scene left multiple diners injured and ended in convictions for rioting and public nuisance.

What’s the wildest Kopitiam drama you’ve ever witnessed in person?
