Remember that wild incident along Pipit Road / Circuit Road? A 41-year-old man decided he wanted to direct his own low-budget version of Fast & Furious: Geylang Drift using a rented GetGo car.

Only problem? The script was an absolute disaster from page one.

* Zero driving license—the driver did not possess a valid license to operate the vehicle.

Naturally, our main character couldn’t just cruise nicely. Instead, he lost complete control of the vehicle, smashed through a carpark barrier, crossed a two-lane road, flew over the kerb, and crashed straight into a pasar malam stall.

Tragically, an innocent 66-year-old stall assistant lost her life in the collision. Absolutely heartbreaking, all because someone wanted to drive recklessly.

Scene 2: The Legendary Ghost Act

Did our driver step out of the car, own up to his mistake, and try to help?

Hanor hor.

Instead of showing an ounce of accountability, he and his passenger immediately abandoned the wrecked rental car and fled the scene. (As for the friend who rented the car on his account? That individual has since passed away from an unrelated traffic accident).

Unfortunately for our 41-year-old driver, the law caught up. The authorities tracked him down and he is now facing the music.

Scene 3: The Ultimate Check-Out (Possible Consequences)

Fast forward to court, and our boy is walking in to collect a magnificent, buffet-style total of seven charges. Let’s look at the menu of punishments associated with offenses of this scale:

• Driving under the influence of drugs / reckless behavior: First-time or severe traffic-related offenses can carry heavy financial penalties and prison sentences.
• Dangerous Driving Causing Death: This is the heavy hitter, carrying severe mandatory jail terms and long-term driving disqualifications under Singapore law.
• Driving without a valid license: Punishable by substantial fines, imprisonment, or both.
• Using a vehicle without insurance coverage / unauthorized use: Violates standard rental agreements and traffic regulations, adding compounding legal penalties.
• Failing to stop and render assistance after a fatal accident: Incurs extra jail time and heavy fines for fleeing a fatal crash scene.
